Optimizing render

Hi everyone, quick question, I have a big scene to render in maya using Arnold for my reel, it takes a lot of time to render:

-I created .tx textures to speed things up

-Now my question, if I click the ''use BOT'' option down the file attributes of each texture

a. is it going to make the render go even faster?

b. is it useless?

c. is it wrong having the .tx textures already? Ending up being contraproductive?

It is ALWAYS correct to use .tx

If your render is moving slow the first thing I would start looking at is how much geo is in your scene? Is the scene optimized? (deleted history, removed unused nodes, etc). What are your sample settings? What are the sample settings on your lights? Is it an interior scene, or an exterior scene?

Hi Mr.Hanson, thanks for your reply, took me some time to be ready to respond, I wanted the project to be as finished as I could before showing it to you. Anyway, thanks really appreciate it.

Here's the beauty pass

-It has a lot of cloths, one fluid simulation and animated geomtry (pigeons flying over the street, moving trees), all of them have been cached.

-I optimized scene, deleted all unsused nodes, created tx. textures

-Reduced to cero all volume samples in my lights (2 area lights, 1 directional light, 1 skydome light with an HDR map matching the same resolution the photo had)

-My render settings are:

AA Samples: 4
diffuse Samples: 3
glossy: 3
refraction:3

Volumes section, indirect samples 1

Sample filtering gaussian, width: 2

Image size 1080HD
resolution 72
device aspect ratio: 1.7
Pixel aspect ratio: 1

takes 35 min per frame, 400 frames


Would you recommend any change?

Looks great, and your settings are pretty good. I would say focus on getting things like zdepth for depth of field, and atmosphere etc. into your scene. As it is the render looks good, but without those kind of real world phenomenon it will still have a bit of a CG look. Great start! Keep it up!

Im just thinking out loud here.

I wonder if a wide screen resolution could be hacked this way. nGlide works awesome but it still forces you to use 4:3, unless you want a stretched image.
